AI between pilot projects and scaling in retail
The use of artificial intelligence in retail is growing rapidly, yet many initiatives still remain at the pilot stage. As part of our x4in summit 2025 in Prague, we spoke with Jon Stine from Honeycomb Retail AI about the structural conditions required to make AI a sustainable and scalable capability in retail organizations.
Jon Stine is Co-Founder of Honeycomb Retail AI and previously served as Global Director at Intel, Cisco, and the Linux Foundation.

The conversation focused on how AI initiatives must be aligned with clearly defined business challenges rather than technology-driven experimentation. Jon Stine shared perspectives on setting realistic expectations for economic impact, the importance of strong data foundations, and the critical role of leadership in turning isolated use cases into scalable, organization-wirde solutions.
We also discussed the shift in user interfaces toward natural language interactions, and why the value of AI typically emerges step by step trough continuous learning, organizational adaption, and integration into existing processes, rather than trough a single breakthrough project.
Mister Stine, thank you so much for the so open and insightful conversation.
